Our values
We're looking for examples of programmes, resources and best practice which share our values and promote better place-making.
We’re asking professional bodies, academic institutions and training providers in the regeneration sector to tell us about their products – from learning programmes and workshops to best practice and toolkits.
Those which meet our core values and skills criteria will be asked to join the HCA place-making recognition scheme.
Anyone applying for recognition under the scheme will need to demonstrate two key attributes when it comes to values and skills. Products must have a track record of:
- Improving professional and/or community understanding of place-making and helping different groups work together.
- Developing skills and building capacity within communities, organisations and individuals.
We’ll also be looking for evidence of commitment to at least one of another five core place-making values. These values demonstrate a commitment to:
- Promoting respect for individuals and groups; giving power to people over decisions which affect them, and encouraging people to take responsibility for the outcomes of decisions.
- Helping people take pride in their community and feel a sense of connection to where they live.
- Creating communities which balance economic, social and environmental considerations.
- Building safe, healthy, clean and well-serviced places where people want to live and work.
- Respect for community heritage and its sustainability.
Submissions need to also demonstrate how their products develop any two of the following cross-professional place-making skills:
- Project management
- Analysis
- Breakthrough thinking
- Communication
- Conflict resolution
- Customer awareness
- Financial management
- Inclusive visioning
- Leadership
- Making it happen
- Process and change management
- Stakeholder management
- Team and partnership working
- Carbon management
- Community cohesion
