Skills and Knowledge from the HCA

The place-making recognition scheme

Identifying quality products that improve skills and knowledge

Our values

test2-pete

We're looking for examples of programmes, resources and best practice which share our values and promote better place-making.

We’re asking professional bodies, academic institutions and training providers in the regeneration sector to tell us about their products – from learning programmes and workshops to best practice and toolkits.

Those which meet our core values and skills criteria will be asked to join the HCA place-making recognition scheme.

Anyone applying for recognition under the scheme will need to demonstrate two key attributes when it comes to values and skills. Products must have a track record of:

  • Improving professional and/or community understanding of place-making and helping different groups work together.
  • Developing skills and building capacity within communities, organisations and individuals.

We’ll also be looking for evidence of commitment to at least one of another five core place-making values. These values demonstrate a commitment to:

  • Promoting respect for individuals and groups; giving power to people over decisions which affect them, and encouraging people to take responsibility for the outcomes of decisions.
  • Helping people take pride in their community and feel a sense of connection to where they live.
  • Creating communities which balance economic, social and environmental considerations.
  • Building safe, healthy, clean and well-serviced places where people want to live and work.
  • Respect for community heritage and its sustainability.

Submissions need to also demonstrate how their products develop any two of the following cross-professional place-making skills:

  • Project management
  • Analysis
  • Breakthrough thinking
  • Communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Customer awareness
  • Financial management
  • Inclusive visioning
  • Leadership
  • Making it happen
  • Process and change management
  • Stakeholder management
  • Team and partnership working
  • Carbon management
  • Community cohesion
